Q:
can somone tell me what lan server is?

A:
"LAN Server" is a VERY vague term-

Essentially it means any "server" (computer) connected to a "Local Area Network" (LAN).

The term "server" used to mean a computer that was specially designed and configured to "serve" files to other computers or terminals.

It didn't usually do anything else, it's only job was to store and "serve" files for users on other computers.

This was in the days of "Client/Server" networking, when large hard drives and large amounts of RAM were very expensive, and it was better to concentrate those resources in one specialized machine somewhere in your office, and give all the users (the "clients"), a lower powered "workstation" that connected to the "server" over a "LAN".

Then the "clients" could load the files they needed for their work from the server, and then store the results back on the server when they were done.

This also let the clients "share" their work by keeping it on a central server which was accessible by other users.

These days, the term "server" has come to mean practically ANY computer you want to call a "server".

Now, with hard drive space and RAM being quite inexpensive, it's economical to store files locally, on each computer, rather than concentrating those resources on a central machine.

The result is that networking has become a lot more "Peer To Peer" than before.

That means users share files among themselves directly, rather than going through a central "server". In a true "Peer To Peer" network, there IS no "server".

However, many people mistakenly still call computers "servers" even though they're most likely not used in the original sense of the word.

(Note- "Client/Server" style networks ARE still used, mostly for larger networks- as in large corporate installations.)

Then there are "game servers"-

These are generally ANY computer that runs a central game hosting program (such as a "Quake server") which allows other gamers to connect and play the game in a multi-player mode.

These computers may also allow the players to download game program updates, and media such as "game levels".

They may operate over a LAN, or the Internet, or both. So in effect, a game server COULD be a "LAN server".

Is that vague enough..?

Q:
but can you awnser me on this question 2 ?

when I do the portoward on ur turoral
somthing happend

when I write down tibia1 port 7171 etc and press the add button this msg comes up: Invalid IP of LAN Server.

what could I write in the lan server Cry?

A:
Ah.. I see...! Sorry about the long thesis on "servers"- that had nothing to do with your problem..!

The "LAN Server" it's talking about is YOUR computer, the one that tibia will be running on.

You need to enter the Static IP Address of your computer in that box.
